What about gunmetal? I personally wouldn't do black unless I had black wheels. But a dark shade of grey, its a good middle ground. I hate shiny fake chrome though.

I'd wait until you're rocking a set of black wheels. The chrome works with the polished Alum. wheels, otherwise it looks weird. Might even recommend doing your wheels and use an accent around the lip to spice it up, or just black:

No. I like that M cars are mostly devoid of chrome traditionally, but the grilles are a prominent part of the cars' identity, so I like them as they are, especially against dark colors. I blacked out the grilles on my old E28 M5, then promptly changed my mind for that reason.

I don't want the whole "blacked out" thing going on, that trend needs to die. Seeing it without the front kidneys makes the blacked out grills somewhat attractive.

Definitely. I had an E39 with the Shadowline trim package and can say with certainty that black kidney grills look bitchin.

Its such a common thing, and what pisses me off is most of these kids just plastidip it or rattle can it. If you actually paint it to match the body color and not use BBQ grill paint, it'd probably look good.

I would say paint the kidneys and leave the spokes. I just hate the flat black look. My kidneys will stay stock forever.

I'm just not big on the flat look, and I'm not sure if body matched would look good since nobody really does it. I'm inclined to believe it would though.

Replace with stock for now IMO.

I prefer the blackout look to include the wheels, but that's just me. Having said that, I fully support the blackout on your M3. I think it'll look sharp.
